In a bold effort to safeguard Tanzania’s natural heritage, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is continuing its conservation training programs for key stakeholders in the Kilombero Valley—an ecologically sensitive region that supports thousands of residents through agriculture, water resources, and biodiversity.
These trainings target members of the Kilombero River Basin Conservation Champions Network, aiming to build their capacity in designing innovative conservation projects, collaborating with partners, and developing sustainable environmental strategies. During a two-day workshop held in Morogoro, participants explored modern conservation techniques, including sustainable land use, wildlife monitoring, and community engagement in environmental stewardship.
Dr. Rozaria Rwegasila, Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary for Economic Affairs in Morogoro, emphasized the importance of collaboration between conservation champions and development organizations to achieve impactful and lasting results for both communities and ecosystems. The training sessions have sparked renewed motivation among participants, who now have a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in protecting the Kilombero Valley.
By continuing these trainings, AWF demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusive conservation—where communities are not just observers but active contributors to environmental solutions. The Kilombero Valley stands as a shining example of how partnerships between government, civil society, and local residents can lead to sustainable protection of nature for current and future generations
