Protecting Kilombero Valley: AWF Empowers Local Conservation Through KNCC
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) continues to make significant strides in conserving the breathtaking Kilombero Valley by supporting and educating members of the Kilombero Nature Conservation Community (KNCC). This partnership plays a vital role in preserving the valley’s unique biodiversity and ensuring a sustainable future for its ecosystems.
Located in Tanzania, the Kilombero Valley is one of East Africa’s most ecologically rich regions — home to countless wildlife species, wetlands, forests, and indigenous communities. But with increasing threats from human activity and climate change, the need for community-driven conservation has never been more urgent.
Through ongoing funding, training, and awareness campaigns, AWF helps KNCC strengthen its capacity to protect the valley. Members are equipped with tools and knowledge to safeguard habitats, monitor wildlife, and promote eco-friendly practices across local communities.
"When communities are empowered, conservation becomes a shared mission," says a representative from AWF. "We believe that people are not separate from nature, but part of it."
As the Kilombero Valley faces mounting pressure, partnerships like this ensure that conservation is not just a policy — but a way of life. Together, AWF and KNCC are keeping the valley wild, vibrant, and alive for future generations
